Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any funding available for solar panels?
Many banks offer low-interest loans for solar panels and batteries—ask your local branch for details.
Will I still get a power bill with solar panels?
Unless you’re off the grid with battery storage, you’ll still get a power bill, but a well-designed system will reduce it by a lot.
What happens to extra solar power I don’t use?
Unused energy goes back to the grid, and your power company credits you for it. Rates vary, so check with your provider.
Can I add more panels later?
Yes! If you think you might want to add more panels in the future, just let us know.
Are solar panels recyclable?
Yes, materials like glass, aluminium, and silicon can be recycled.
Do the panels have to go on the north side of my roof?
In NZ, north-facing roofs are ideal, but east and west can work too.
I have a flat roof, will that work for solar panels?
Yes absolutely. On a flat roof, we can use tilts to create an angle for maximum sun exposure.
Will solar panels look bad on my roof?
Not at all. We install panels neatly, so they blend in with your roof and are often barely noticeable.
Do solar panels work when it's not sunny?
Panels generate less power on cloudy days. But with an average of 2,128 sunshine hours in Christchurch each year, you don’t need to worry!
What happens if snow covers the panels?
Because they are tilted, snow usually slides right off and isn’t heavy enough to cause damage. If needed, panels are really easy to clean.
Does Garden City Solar do off-grid solar projects?
